Our Background

The Sustainable Climate-Smart Agricultural Association (SCSAA) was established to address the growing challenges of abandoned and unproductive land, which contribute significantly to hunger, food insecurity, malnutrition, and poverty across the country.

Despite the availability of fertile land and adequate water resources, agricultural productivity remains low due to reliance on traditional farming practises, limited access to quality farm inputs, certified seeds and seedling nurseries, extension services, together with unpredictable rainfall patterns, extreme climatic conditions, soil degradation and the increasing impact of climate change.

The Association aims to transform abandoned and unproductive land into productive farmland by promoting and implementing climate-smart agriculture (CSA). This will be achieved through mobilisation, sensitization, training, and inclusive participation of women, youth, retirees, and persons with disabilities at the village and ward levels.

The association plans to operate under a three-tier structure:

Tier 1: Farmer Groups at the village and ward level.

Tier 2: Cooperatives at the sub-county level Tier 3: Agriculture Unions at the county level

SCSAA plans to empower farmers and communities through capacity-building and training programmes, with access to affordable soil-testing services, quality certified seeds and seedling nurseries, extension and financial services, digital and financial literacy training, all aimed at improving productivity, incomes and livelihoods at the village and ward levels.
